Born Kimberley Alexis Bledel in Houston, Texas on September 16th, 1981. Her mother Nanette Blake is Mexican and her father Martin Bledel is Argentinian, which may explain Alexis' very unique look. She also has one younger brother called Eric who was born in 1986. Her first language is Spanish, and she didn't start learning English until she was in school.

As she was such a shy child, her parents encouraged her to try acting, and at the tender age of 8 years old she joined a local theatre company and went on to star in plays including Our Town, The Wizard of Oz and Aladdin in front of local crowds.

From here her next big project was modelling which she got into quite by accident when she was out shopping with her mother one day, and an employee of Page Parkes Center for Modeling and Acting saw her and offered her work. She continued to do modeling throughout her early teenage years and flew all over the place for photoshoots. As a result of this travelling she missed a lot of school.

She left modelling at the age of 14 when she was told she would need to lose "2 inches off her hips" and she had the good sense to say "I'll pass". (Another thing which turned her off of modelling was doing a shoot in the winter time and having a bucket of cold water thrown over her!)

After graduating, Bledel studied for one year at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts - of which she speaks very highly.

"I was at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for a year and I loved it. There are a lot of really creative people, there is a constant exchange of an ideas. We talk about what's been done [in film] and all the rules for filmmaking and then we talk about how to break them."

After a year she scored the lead role of Rory Gilmore on the TV comedy / drama series "The Gilmore Girls", for which she is most well known. The audition for Glmore Girls was her first ever acting audition, and she says that she was very nervous and didn't really know what she was doing, but that somehow it all seemed to work. She moved to L.A. to shoot Gilmore Girls but admitted to David Letterman on his show back in 2003 that that she dislikes living in L.A. because she has to drive everywhere and says she is a terrible driver!

Since then Alexis hasnt looked back! She has gone on to do a mixture of larger and smaller roles in film, and has also appeared in a video clip for the band "Less than Jake", the song being "She's Gonna Break Soon."

Her music taste is Punk/Ska music, and some of her favorite bands have been Incubus and Radiohead. She plays the keyboard herself and practiced playing in between takes on the set of Gilmore Girls.

Some of her favourite passtimes are reading, photography, writing, going to movies and spending quality time with her family.

She hates coffee and, while her character "Rory" on "Gilmore Girls" consumes it daily, she drinks coca-cola out of the supposed coffee mugs!

She is friends with Amber Tamblyn and America Ferrera her co-star from the movie, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

Alexis adopted a Maltese-chihuahua mix dog named Sophie.

She played on a women's soccer team called "The Hustlers"

Alexis says about herself : "Sometimes I feel like I am an old person trapped in a young person's body. I'm boring. I go to movies. I read. That's about it."

Alexis was dating Gimore Girls co-star Milo Ventimiglia (also known as Peter Petrelli in "Heroes"!) until part way through when 2006, when sadly the couple broke up.
